THE JOURNEY TO MAINE

Our actual move to Maine was anything but uneventful. We drove a moving van pulling one car (with a canoe on top), followed by our second car. We had 4 cats (2 who travel very badly) stacked in carriers in the van, and one big dog in the second car. Having driven this route several times before, we expected to be able to make the 800-mile trip from Ohio in 13-15 hours. It took about 25. We encountered non-stop torrential rain from New York all the way to Maine. The phone company was on strike, so we couldn't call anyone to let them know where we were. Fully exhausted after our first day of driving, we collapsed in a hotel in Massachusetts (18 hours and we hadn't even reached Boston!). We would have liked to rest for a day or two, but had to be in Maine to close on a mortgage the next day! (Our advice to you: Don't try this at home...) We did manage to take a few pictures along the way.
