BOARDING

Because our focus is medicine and surgery, we cannot offer full boarding services. We are able to offer some day boarding of dogs and cats, as well as some longer term boarding of cats. There are several boarding facilities in the area whose entire focus is boarding of pets; click here for information.

Since your pet may spend a day visiting either for "day care," medical reasons, or surgery, we're providing some information about our facility and our procedures.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Each pet has a separate cage or stall with a blanket and fresh water (and litter box for cats) available at all times. Dogs are leash walked 2-3 times a day in the yard surrounding the clinic, and on nice days they're able to stay in outside runs during the day. We feed Eukanuba and Iams diets, but if you would prefer your pet to eat a different food, just bring it along; also, if your pet eats a prescription diet, please bring it along or make arrangements for us to have it on hand. If your pet requires any medications, our staff can administer them - just bring them along and let us know your dosing schedule.

REQUIREMENTS

For the protection of all our boarders, all pets must be current (within the past year, except in the case of a 3-year rabies booster) on the following:

CATS

DOGS

PARASITES

All pets must have had a negative stool sample check within the last year. Because we walk your pet outside, an infected dog could shed parasite eggs into our soil and pass parasites to others. Also because our staff cleans the litter boxes of our cat boarders, we need to know if they are shedding any parasites that could be contagious to people.

All pets must be free of fleas, ticks, lice and mites.

PROCEDURE

If we are not your regular veterinarian, we require proof of vaccines and stool checks, preferably written. If you don't have access to the needed records, we can contact your veterinarian for proper verification; if any requirements are missing, or if no proof is furnished, we will administer any needed treatments. Vaccines (after an examination to ensure healthiness) or stool checks that we perform will be added at regular cost; we can provide you with an estimate for these charges as needed. If your pet is discovered to have any internal or external parasites, these will be treated at regular cost during your pet's stay.

HOURS

Our drop-off and pick-up hours correspond with the clinic being open.

In the case of overnight stays, our boarding charges are assessed by the day, beginning at 9 am, so if you pick up prior to 9 am, you are not charged for the current day.

OVERNIGHT STAFFING DISCLOSURE

A state law passed in 2001 requires that we discuss our overnight staffing with anyone leaving a pet overnight at our facility. Our clinic, like almost every other clinic in Maine (the two emergency clinics are notable exceptions), does not have overnight staffing. We have the pertinent information readily available at the front counter for anyone leaving a pet with us.
